Are you helping the Environment when you Junk Your Car?

We know that junking your car will help you score some extra cash, but will it help out the environment? Is your car better off sitting in your driveway or backyard collecting dust or is it economically better to send that vehicle to the junk yard?

Studies show that 85 percent of the material in junk cars can be recycled. Recycling your junk car will serve as used parts for other cars. It will help save money, natural resources and energy. Not junking your vehicle or leaving it to rot in the driveway or backyard can be wasteful. The car will start to corrode and decay which can be harmful to the environment when it is not done in the right environment according to local and state environmental laws.

While keeping your junk car and watching it corrode can be wasteful, recycling your junk car can protect the environment. All vehicles contain gas, oil, antifreeze, refrigerants, lead, mercury, and other contaminants that can be harmful if they contaminate our drinking water supply, air, and soil. When you recycle your junk car the right way, the salvage yard will remove the contaminants and dispose of things properly so that the environment is protected and pollution free.

When choosing to recycle your vehicle, make sure that it is being recycled to a salvage yard that meets environmentally-friendly best practices. Ask about the process they use to ensure the vehicle’s contaminants are removed and disposed of properly so that the environment is safe. It is important to be knowledgeable when you are junking your car instead of sending it off to a junkyard that may do more harm there than it did in your backyard. Make sure they are licensed by the local municipality and is complying with the state environmental requirements.

  1. It's definitely good to know that junk cars can be recycled. My neighbor has one in his yard right now that he's looking to get rid of. I honestly think hiring a removal service would be a better option for the environment than just keeping it there. Hopefully he can find a good junk car removal service. Thanks for the post! http://www.libertyironandmetalerie.com/Junk_Cars.html

  2. My grandpa has one of his old 1940 Ford truck sitting in his back yard. I believe he is wanting to recycle it, but wasn't sure how he would go about recycling something so big like that. You talked about a few things that he could do in order to recycle the car properly. I will make sure I let him know about this. Thanks a ton for this. http://cashforjunkcars3.com/

That way the parts can be used for something else instead of just sitting there wasting away. Thanks for sharing this blog and opening my eyes. http://www.cash4carsindianapolis.com
